Activities & Outcomes in 2016
Mentors For Our Schools organised and facilitated the annual Yakka Day Expo for young Aboriginal school children. We organised the venue, exhibitors and transportation of over nine hundred young Aboriginal students from surrounding areas to attend Yakka Day. Yakka Day provides young Aboriginal people and other young people at risk of not completing school, the chance to Try-a-Skill. The exhibitors give the young people the opportunity to learn about a wide variety of occupations and get some actual hands-on experience of skills used in those professions. Mentors For Our Schools also teamed with OZ Harvest, to conduct a program for at risk high school students which allowed them to attend a program of cooking and nutrition skills. Giving them hands on experience and knowledge of the theory and practice of the catering and cooking industry
