Foodbank Victoria Limited
Also known as “Foodbank Victoria”, Foodbank Victoria Limited is a large-scale charity established in 2005. Their main activity is registered as emergency and relief primarily serving financially disadvantaged people.
Foodbank Victoria is the largest food relief charity in Victoria. In the 2018/19 financial year, Foodbank Victoria distributed over 9.6 million kilograms of food to Victorians experiencing food insecurity . This volume is the equivalent of putting 17.3 million meals on tables for people in need. We are specialists in rescuing food destined for landfill and redistributing this to disadvantaged communities. We partner with over 470 local charities, the largest non-profit food distribution network in the state, to deliver healthy food to communities across Victoria. In addition, we work with 500 of the most disadvantaged state primary schools to ensure students who arrive at school with an empty stomach receive a healthy breakfast. Our School Breakfast Club Program is the largest in Australia and in the 2018-19 financial year provided 3,200,000 meals to disadvantaged primary school students . In addition to being the largest food relief charity, were also the oldest. Beginning in 1930, we now have 90 years experience rescuing and redistributing food and we understand the issues facing communities during times of distress and hardship. We have built a strong track record for responding to the needs of the communities we serve while maintaining peoples dignity and respect. Our leadership in the sector has been recognised by the Victorian Government, who appointed Foodbank Victoria to the State Relief and Recovery Team to provide emergency food provision during large scale events (such as the Black Saturday bushfires).
