The AEGN undertook the following work in 2019/20 to achieve our mission and aims: We convened 16 events to build member knowledge and sharing, including our: annual conference in March, which transitioned to an online event as the threat of COVID-19 escalated. Eighty participants explored the role of diverse voices in creating the broad shift needed to set Australia on the path to a sustainable, healthy and biodiverse future. two-day field trip to Central Victoria for members, visiting key sites and hearing from landscape scale conservation coordinators, First Nations land managers, farmers and sustainable food systems practitioners, community organisations and environmental advocates. 11th Annual General Meeting in October, which featured a funder panel to highlight different approaches to strategic funding. 80 per cent of event attendees were trustees, donors and CEOs. 91 per cent of attendees reported that our events impacted positively on their grantmaking, 12 per cent very significantly, 28 per cent significantly and 31 per cent moderately. We connected members with common interests and responded to major issues by: developing a publicly available database of organisations and projects funded by AEGN members in response to unprecedented bushfires and advising members and other funders on how to fund this issue strategically. bringing together scientists and communications experts to deliver a Bushfire Fact Check webinar to unpack the underlying causes of the fires, role of hazard reduction burning, factors influencing media reporting and policy actions Australia could take in response to the fires. We boosted member collaboration by: curating the rapid-response Clearinghouse, with 68 projects posted and 55 projects worth $12.8 million going ahead as a result of members contributing funding. supporting members to host eight events, introducing the organisations and environmental work that they are passionate about to other funders. Eight members also showcased their favourite environmental organisations and projects at our conference. The AEGN collaborated with other philanthropic organisations and government by: running an environmental policy and politics panel at Philanthropy Australias Philanthropy Meets Parliament Summit in Canberra in September, where members shared relevant funding on the issues of climate mitigation, biodiversity, sustainable agriculture, Indigenous land management and waste reduction. working with Philanthropy Australia on an advocacy toolkit for funders, giving a wide range of philanthropic funders the capability to fund advocacy. presenting at a Philanthropy New Zealand Environmental Funders Network forum on the broad role of philanthropy in responding to climate change. We continued to review and develop tools and resources to support members in their funding, including: developing a climate change guide to build funder knowledge of the issue and provide a process for funders to d
