Queensland Country Womens Assocation Darling Downs

Queensland Country Womens Assocation Darling Downs was established in 1921.

QCWA was inducted into the Qld Business Leaders Hall of Fame for its contribution to the wellbeing of women and rural communities for 90 years. QCWA distributed $326k to support various organisations. These donations from the Public Rural Crisis Fund aided 388 individuals/families, Youngcare and the Royal Flying Doctor Service. QCWA bought hay for starving livestock and assisted families affected by floods. QCWA offers a variety of committees which provide opportunities to acquire varied skills such as cookery, floral art, knitting and crochet, dressmaking, music and drama, photography and patchwork. CWA House Oakey has been providing residential aged care for 35 years. Management and staff, health professionals, volunteers, contractors and agencies form the patchwork of the multifaceted services required. A home and residential care service is provided to 40 residents. The Creek Rooms provide secure accommodation for 15 residents with specific needs. Another noteworthy project this year `Kits for Kids` was a box filled with school classroom supplies and sent to PNG and Solomon Islands. QCWA launched its new quarterly magazine `RUTH` which is available state-wide via newsagents. Many subjects are covered: starting a new career, celebrating life in a small town, suicide prevention and working towards climate change. The magazine, which recently won an editorial award covers topics such as cookery, fashion, inspiring women and gardening. Visit our website www.qcwa.org.au
