The River Nile School (RNS) offers full time programs delivering the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) curriculum to re-engage refugee and asylum seeker school-aged young women who may have experienced disrupted schooling, are newly arrived to Australia, or find a flexible learning environment most suitable to their learning. RNS adopts a holistic model for supporting the unique educational and wellbeing needs of each student. As our students come from backgrounds where many have experienced trauma and torture, so a trauma-informed approach is also integral to our model. We strive to (1) Increase language, literacy, numeracy, personal and work skills attainment to improve whole-of-life opportunities for our students, and their children. (2) Empower students to effectively manage their lives and support them in developing pathways to productively integrate into our community for further education & training, work, social engagement, wellbeing.
