Cairns Couch Ltd
Also known as “COUCH Wellness Centre” and “Cairns COUCH Cancer Wellness Centre”, Cairns Couch Ltd is a large-scale charity established in 2007. Their main activity is registered as community development primarily serving adults - aged 25 to under 65 adults - aged 65 and over families people with chronic illness (including terminal illness).
We completed construction and commissioning of the Wellness Centre premises and opened it to clients and carers; We engaged a team of allied health professionals and complementary therapists to service our clients; We completed our first year of successful operation of our Wellness Centre. We provided health, well-being and lifestyle support for Far North Queenslander's diagnosed and living with cancer. These support services compliment a clients chosen cancer treatment pathway. We increased our community of clients who are providing very positive feedback on their experience at the Wellness Centre. We commenced our Community Connect Program which provides support through Volunteers to assist people who are faced with a diagnosis of cancer by providing support with everyday tasks and chores. We purchased adjoining land to the Wellness Centre and commenced planning for a Remote Patient and Carer Accommodation project. We registered a team of over 90 volunteers to underpin our Charity and Wellness Centre operations; We implemented tele-health services for our clients during our 10 weeks closure period due to COVID-19; We transitioned the management and governance of the organisation from an advocacy/ fundraising charity to also be capable of supporting and being responsive to the needs of the Wellness Centre, its clients and its staff whilst retaining its community-wide role.
